Should a Credit App Ask for Your Bureau Password?

1. Identify what the service says it needs: the report document, or an account credential.
2. If it asks for a username and password, ask why the file itself will not do.
3. Download your own report from AnnualCreditReport.com and keep the dated file.
4. Ask who inside the company can open what you send, and write the answer down.
5. Ask how long it is kept, and whether the retention rule is written down.
6. Ask what deletion actually removes, noting that standard delete commands may leave data.
7. Confirm that freezes and fraud alerts are placed through each bureau, not a third party.
8. Record the date, the recipient and exactly what you sent.
