CHECKDISPUTE | FREE PRACTICE CHECKLIST How to Share a Credit Report Safely: Send Less 1. Write down the one question the recipient is trying to answer, in their words. 2. Ask the recipient what they actually need and whether an excerpt is acceptable to them. 3. Get your own copy first, free, from AnnualCreditReport.com, and note the date you pulled it. 4. Identify the exact pages that answer the question, by reporting company and page number. 5. Include the page that identifies the report and its date, so the excerpt can be placed. 6. Send a copy, never your only copy, and keep the full file yourself. 7. Ask how long the recipient keeps it, who on their side can open it, and how they dispose of it; write the answer down with the date you asked. 8. Save a dated record of exactly what you sent, to whom, and by which method. 9. Confirm that nothing you sent states something you have not checked against your own records.
