CHECKDISPUTE | FREE PRACTICE CHECKLIST Credit Bureau Asking for More Information: What to Send 1. Identify which letter arrived: a frivolous/insufficient-information determination, or an identity-verification request. 2. Read what it identifies as missing — the notice must state the reasons and name the required information. 3. For a content gap: assemble the circled report page, the document showing the different value, and a restatement of the specific discrepancy. 4. For an identity request: full name and prior names, current/recent address, SSN, date of birth — plus copies of ID or utility bills if asked. 5. Copies only, never originals; list each enclosure in the response. 6. Expect the clock to move: relevant information sent inside the window can extend the period up to 15 days. 7. Do not resend the same letter — a substantially identical repeat can be treated as frivolous; new information is what changes the outcome. 8. Keep the dated package in the record set, keyed to the disputed item.
