CHECKDISPUTE | FREE PRACTICE CHECKLIST Authorized User vs. Joint Account on a Credit Report 1. Record the account as printed: creditor name, account number, report page and report date. 2. Write down the role the report assigns you: owner, joint owner or authorized user. 3. Find the document that created the account and record the role it actually states. 4. Note whether you signed an agreement — and keep a dated copy of whatever shows your role. 5. If the report says owner and the documents say authorized user, write one sentence stating both. 6. Record the furnisher's address as printed on the report for the direct dispute you send yourself. 7. If a collector claims you co-signed, note your request for evidence such as a signed contract. 8. For a spousal account, note the date you sent any written request to designate both spouses' participation.
